Our Collaborators

Our core groups are run in collaboration with Exeter Phoenix, Exeter Library, Exeter Northcott Theatre and Organic Arts. We enjoy regular collaborations with the Royal Albert Memorial Museum

“Our partnership with the Pelican Project has been such a rich and fruitful process, introducing a diverse group of young people with complex additional needs to our building and artistic programme(s) and seeing them become increasingly at home as part of the wider Phoenix family and confident as artists and audiences. It has helped us develop and grow our our goals to increase our reach, both to young people and to more diverse communities, while building our experience, confidence and enjoyment of working with young, neurodiverse artists. Freefall+ are very much now part of the team and Exeter Phoenix wouldn’t be the same wonderful place it is without their presence”

— Matt Burrows, Curator and Visual Arts Manager, Exeter Phoenix

“It is a privilege to work in partnership with The Pelican Project. The Northcott has benefited greatly from the Pelican team's sensitivity and in depth knowledge of working with participants with a range of physical and learning disabilities. It has been a pleasure to work collaboratively on projects such as Creative Connections, where the Pelican team's incredible levels of empathy and integrity have enabled us to create such a warm, inclusive and safe space”

— Lisa Hudson, Participation Manager, Exeter Northcott Theatre

"RAMM values Pelican Project for its work encouraging and enabling young people with additional needs to engage with culture and heritage in Exeter. Pelican acts as a critical friend in helping to guide the museum as it aims to make activities and spaces more accessible and appealing to young people with disabilities and their carers. The relationship makes RAMM’s audiences more diverse – which enriches the environment and events for everyone - and helps the museum to learn.  Our experience of Pelican’s involvement in annual Takeover Day for children and young people helped to shape our thinking around the wellbeing impact of visibly diverse audiences in central spaces in the museum. It also influenced future programming when we hope to create shared experiences for combined audiences of different needs."

— Ruth Gidley, Engagement Officer, Exeter Ramm

“organicarts is an educational charity based on a working farm just outside of Exeter. We run a range of activities with many different groups, including the learning-disabled, engaging people in a creative response to the land alongside discovering how the farm works. The long term partnership with the Pelican Project has allowed us to work with one group of people on a monthly basis. The group has developed a strong relationship with the farm and of each other and we have have developed an understanding of them as individuals with hugely varying interests and needs. This deeper understanding has allowed our work together meet these needs and interests as we follow the seasons and their celebrations in a way that is not possible when working on short term or one off projects. The benefits for both group and practitioner are huge and highly enjoyable!”

— Kevin Cotter - Green Creators Tutor - Organicarts

"Working with the Pelicans is the highlight of my week.  Supporting them to design both 2D and 3D projects and seeing the delight with the finished product makes my job worth coming in for.  The young people and the Pelican Project Team are always so upbeat and positive, I get a buzz every time I work with them and it reminds me why I love teaching so much.  The group have designed some complex designs and we love to see their creativity in every session. "

— Marcus Brown - Digital Making Tutor - FabLab Exeter

"Partnering with the Pelican Project and working collaboratively to deliver a Learning Disability software solution that gives people with learning disabilities a voice to express their emotions has been a brilliant experience - we're proud to work with Charlie and the rest of the team at Pelican, and are looking forward to a long and equally fruitful partnership"
